Summary

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love - a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands. True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead. Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

The verdict

“The finest of pleasures are always the unexpected ones.”  ― Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus THIS. This here is a book you read, re-read and then read again. And yet you just can't get enough of it. The Night Circus. I generally tend to say away from over-hyped books and series. More often than not, they turn out to be huge chunks of disappointment. But I am so darn glad that I picked this up. I was sucked in from the very first page. It had been a while since that happened! It usually takes me about two to five chapters to really get into a book (or DNF it) these days. To try to describe in words, how this book made me feel... is pretty difficult. Beautiful. Magical. Surreal. It made me fall in love. It made me happy. It made me want to keep turning the pages but also not want Celia and Marco's story to end. Yet I could not stop. The descriptions are so beautifully written, you feel you are in the story - living, breathing the enchanted, magical air of the Night Circus. And you will not want to leave. Trust me. You will grow so attached to the characters, you will miss them even before you reach the last page. This is one of THOSE books. One of those rare gems that you just have to pass on or probably just throw open at people's faces and go all "READ THIS!" on them.  Get prepared to be sucked in. Be warned. You'll fall in love. Go read it!
