Summary

Who killed Gulab Sarin?

The radiant new daughter-in-law of the influential Mehta family dies mysteriously on the very next night of her wedding. The murder is an inside job, the police are certain. It could be anyone, the adulterous husband, conniving in-laws, jealous friend and the love struck ex-fiance. With an aim to save themselves and incriminate others, it is not long before these suspects turn into amateur detectives, hunting for clues and delving into hidden secrets only they can unearth. They coerce, pry and blackmail in an attempt to get to the bottom of this mystery.

Will one of these nine unlikely sleuths finally unravel the mystery behind Gulab's death and avenge it? Or will the truth die as viciously as Gulab?

My verdict

I got a copy for review from the author. Thanks Rasleen!

Years ago, used to plough through murder mysteries like my brain needed one to survive every few days. But its been a while since I picked a book from this genre. I'm not a crime fan anymore, so I guess I have mixed feelings about this one.

Happily murdered was a quick read and I was able to finish it in one sitting. I found the narration and the overall writing style to be quite good for a debut author.

Though the story line did not manage to swipe me off my feet or leave me wanting more, the plot and characters feel fresh and I couldn't really find any cliches in there either.

All in all, I didn't love it, I didn't hate it, but I did like Happily Murdered enough to recommend it to murder mystery/crime/thriller lovers for a quick one time read.
